A lengthy stay in a shelter can profoundly impact a dog’s wellbeing. Many shelters observe once-cheerful and optimistic dogs gradually lose their spirit after enduring months of rejection.

One such case is Major, an Indiana shelter dog who has been weeping incessantly for over 260 days since being abandoned by his previous owners. Nevertheless, his shelter companions remain hopeful that he’ll eventually find his perfect family. Major, a four-year-old terrier and pitbull mix, is currently under the care of Hamilton County Humane Society in Indiana.

Since his arrival, Major has resided at the shelter. According to the Humane Society, Major initially maintained positive spirits despite his heartbreaking rejection. He was described as a “sweet and sensitive” dog who enjoyed playtime and his Jolly Ball. Staff characterize Major as a “genuine companion with an enormous heart.” Personnel affectionately referred to him as a handsome boy, bestowing nicknames like “Major hunk” and “Major heartthrob.” Regrettably, not everyone recognized Major’s wonderful qualities; as time passed, potential adopters continued to overlook him.

The shelter staff reports that Major’s optimistic demeanor has deteriorated due to continuous rejection. The humane society shared on Facebook that “his vibrant personality is fading.” “This formerly cheerful boy who adored balls now remains in his room and weeps continuously.”

He currently stays in the shelter’s visiting area rather than the kennels, which they claim cause him stress. However, they recognize that securing Major a permanent residence as soon as possible remains the only viable solution. Major would flourish in a household without small children or cats.

A meet-and-greet is advised since he interacts well with other dogs but sometimes doesn’t recognize his own strength. While Major may not suit every household, there must be someone out there who would provide the ideal environment for this kind and energetic dog. Major’s adoption profile states, “If you’re prepared to welcome a loving, powerful, and playful companion into your life, this is the one for you.”

Major has endured an extended period at the shelter, and it’s distressing to witness him so dejected and disheartened. We sincerely hope he secures a new home soon! Please share this article to help spread awareness about this handsome pup! ❤️
