Several years back, Hayden Howard detected that something appeared amiss with her canine companion.
Her English Mastiff Jackson had been enjoying the backyard while she remained indoors. Upon calling him inside, she observed what resembled insect stings covering his body.
However, upon closer inspection, she discovered the reality was significantly more disturbing.
Jackson was actually riddled with bullet wounds.
“I was utterly stunned, I couldn’t comprehend what I was seeing,” Hayden informed WXIN.
After realizing Jackson had been shot, she immediately transported him to the veterinarian. During examination, the vet discovered numerous tiny projectiles that had been discharged from a BB gun.
“One was lodged beneath his eyelid, another in his ear, one in his knee, they were scattered everywhere,” Hayden explains.
The quantity was so extensive that the veterinarian had to remove nearly all of Jackson’s fur to extract the plastic casings. He removed 27 bullets in total and was compelled to leave 20 in place.
Additionally, the vet identified 20 more bullet entry points in Jackson’s compact frame.
He had endured over 70 shots.
“Never before have I witnessed an animal shot this many times. It’s an extremely severe case and distressing to observe,” stated Seymour Police Department Assistant Chief Craig Hayes.
I cannot fathom how anyone could perpetrate such a cruel act against a dog, particularly one that has never caused harm to anyone.
Authorities suspected the shots originated from an adjacent property and law enforcement quickly pursued the suspect.
They promptly located bullets and a concealed weapon in a neighbor’s residence.
Besides a BB gun and pellets, officers uncovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia within his home, according to Daily Mail.
I sincerely hope the culpable individual receives a lengthy incarceration and faces consequences for their actions.
I firmly believe that upon release, they should be permanently restricted from approaching any animal.
Despite his substantial trauma, Jackson is recovering favorably, according to Hayden.

While BB and pellet guns are commonly referred to as “playthings” or “imitation” by certain media outlets, these are genuine firearms capable of inflicting actual injury.
When an offense is committed using a BB or pellet gun, it should be classified appropriately. It’s an authentic weapon, and offenders who utilize it against defenseless victims should be charged accordingly.
I genuinely hope that Jackson returns to complete health soon and can frolic happily in his yard once more.
