While it’s always a positive development when a canine finds a forever home, occasionally it means separating a close duo — leaving one dog behind at the shelter, more isolated than ever after bidding farewell to their closest companion.
Recently, one four-legged friend was devastated after her brother was taken to a new home — but now she finally has uplifting news of her own.

Stillwater Animal Welfare, in Oklahoma, revealed on Facebook that a pair of canine siblings were rescued as strays. The pair were named “Bonnie and Clyde.”
After remaining unclaimed, the dogs were neutered and microchipped and made available for adoption.
Following a period in the shelter, Clyde eventually found a home, but Bonnie didn’t — and she was distraught after losing her companion and snuggle buddy.
“Bonnie is all alone since her brother got adopted, and she definitely misses having a sibling to cuddle with,” the shelter wrote, posting an image of Bonnie curling up by herself in her kennel:
They hoped Bonnie would soon discover a family of her own and end her solitude.
They noted that she “loves attention” and gets along well with children and other dogs. A staff member commented that she took Bonnie for a walk before a parade and the dog “never got nervous or made a sound.”
“She seemed to adore the kids who wanted to pet her and would just sit right down to receive love from them. She wasn’t reactive to other dogs. She didn’t pull on the leash and was just a joy to be with!”
Fortunately, it wasn’t long before this sweet canine found a household to call her own.
As soon as the shelter opened up on Monday morning, there was an adopter waiting to provide Bonnie with a loving home.
In a Facebook comment, Brayden Routh, Bonnie’s new owner, stated that the dog was “already settling in” — and most importantly, she was going to have a new canine sibling: “She’s going to have the best life full of adventures with her blue heeler mix big sis.”
Bonnie is heartworm positive; the Humane Society of Stillwater initially offered to cover the dog’s treatments if she got adopted, but Brayden instead generously volunteered to pay for them herself so the shelter could “use their funds to save other lives.”
According to The Dodo, Bonnie has been renamed Ember, and she’s thriving in her new environment and home — and especially enjoying her new canine sibling, Tally.
“They became instant best friends,” Brayden told The Dodo. “It really couldn’t have worked out any better than it did… She has been the perfect addition to my life!”
We’re so delighted Bonnie/Ember finally has a household of her own, and will never experience loneliness again! ❤️
