The feline world is no stranger to record-breaking achievements, but when it comes to the Maine Coon breed, Mr. Pugsley Addams has taken things to a whole new level. This two-year-old Maine Coon from Mound, Minnesota, has officially been crowned by Guinness World Records for having the longest tail on a cat, measuring a remarkable 18.5 inches (46.99 cm). This impressive feat has cat lovers and fans alike turning their heads in admiration.
Maine Coons are renowned for their size, but the fluffy tails of these majestic cats really set them apart. Mr. Pugsley Addams lives with the Cameron family, alongside three other adorable Maine Coons. According to Amanda, Pugsley’s cat mom, the first visit to the veterinarian was memorable: “The first time I took him to the vet, he walked in and said, ‘That is a REALLY long tail.’ And I looked at it, really looked at it, and I thought…‘Yeah…it kind of is, isn’t it?’” This casual observation soon turned into a proud recognition as Pugsley’s tail was measured and officially verified.
But how does Pugsley’s tail compare to that of other cats? The typical cat tail measures around 12 inches long, while Maine Coons typically sport tails averaging about 14 inches in length. This means Mr. Pugsley Addams not only excels in the tail category but also redefines it, making his record-breaking tail an astonishing addition of over a foot and a half of fluffy magnificence.
Previously, the title was held by Rajah Shimko, a four-year-old silver Tabby Maine Coon from Seattle, whose tail measured about 2 inches shorter than Pugsley’s. However, Rajah had only held the title for three weeks before being dethroned by the long-tailed wonder.
In addition to his remarkable tail, Pugsley is known for his charming personality. His cat mom describes him as very curious, adventurous, and a significant troublemaker in the household. “Gomez, another cat in the household, is violently affectionate, wanting nothing but cuddles, but Pugsley is the mischievous one,” Amanda explained. This juxtaposition of personalities within the family only adds to the joy he brings to their lives.
Aside from his record-breaking features, life for Pugsley includes a lot of love, play, and interaction with his fellow feline siblings, Winnie, Duchess, and Gomez. He exhibits a well-rounded attitude that makes him a favorite not only among his family but also among the community. “When we go out and about, they call him a ‘local celebrity!’” Amanda remarked, capturing the attention and admiration that Pugsley garners wherever he goes.
It’s fascinating to think about whether Pugsley is aware of his prominent tail. Amanda seems to believe he might be. “It does get in the way, especially when he is excited,” she laughs, recounting how Pugsley’s tail seems to have a personality of its own.
His playful demeanor shines through in his daily routine, which Amanda humorously summarizes: “Eat. Beg. Eat. Sleep. Beg. Eat. Sleep. Eat. Beg. Play fetch. Eat. Sleep.” How can anyone resist such a delightful companion?
Mr. Pugsley Addams exemplifies the best traits of the Maine Coon breed, proving that they’re not just large cats— they’re larger-than-life personalities. For those wanting to see the majestic Mr. Pugsley in action, check out his feature on Guinness World Records below:
