Laundry Basket On Road Reveals Abandoned Puppies Fighting to Survive
Earlier this week, a quiet moment on a tree-lined street in Connecticut turned into a shocking discovery when a passing driver spotted something out of place — a discarded laundry basket nestled just off the roadside. What looked like an ordinary pile of household laundry turned out to be a heartbreaking case of animal abandonment.
A Closer Look Reveals Something Alive
As the woman slowed down while passing the basket, she noticed something unusual — a small nose protruding from one of the basket’s ventilation holes. Alarmed by the sight, she quickly pulled over and called for help.
Ledyard Animal Control Officer Heather Haddon responded to the call. Upon arrival, Haddon and the driver lifted the top layer of blankets and found a pair of terrified animals underneath — two cats, trembling side by side, as though they understood they had been left behind.
Signs the Cats Once Knew a Home
While it’s uncertain how the cats ended up in the laundry basket, Officer Haddon strongly believes that they had once belonged to a home.
“They are very clean, no indication of living outdoors, and very well socialized,” Haddon explained.
Unlike typical feral cats, these two felines didn’t immediately retreat in fear or aggression. In fact, Haddon noted that they warmed up to her surprisingly quickly, welcoming gentle touches and returning affection with soft purrs within minutes.
Safe, Warm, and On the Road to Recovery
Now in the care of Ledyard Animal Control, the cats are doing much better. They’ve settled into their temporary foster environment, where signs of comfort are already visible.
- They purr almost instantly when touched.
- They’re using their litter box consistently.
- They eat heartily.
- And most touching of all — they cuddle close together in their bed.
Searching for Their Former Owner — Or a New Forever Home
Ledyard Animal Control is actively seeking information about the cats’ previous home and who may have left them abandoned. While the investigation continues, preparations are underway to find them a new, loving home — together, as Officer Haddon insists on keeping them united.
“I’ll keep these two together because they’re clearly a bonded pair, and they’ll thrive most with each other’s company,” said Haddon. “They’re going to make wonderful pets for the right household.”
