Cat Falls in Love With Life-Size Skeleton Halloween Decoration

For most, Halloween ends on November 1st. But for one household, it has become a year-round spooky celebration thanks to an unlikely feline friendship. Meet Gravy, a gray kitten who captured the internet’s heart by falling head over paws for a life-size Halloween skeleton.

The Beginning of Gravy’s Journey

In 2021, Pip adopted Gravy in hopes of placating his older cat, Nym, with a new companion. Though Nym was initially skeptical, Gravy’s loving, curious, and persistent nature slowly won over her furry older sister.

Gravy’s personality bloomed quickly and offered plenty of entertainment for her dad, Pip. He described her having three distinct moods:

  • Screaming Time – Vocal moments when Gravy demanded attention.
  • Goblin Time – Energetic sprints through the house, toy in mouth, mischief on mind.
  • Loving Time – Gentle cuddles and affectionate behavior with her family… and eventually, her skeleton companion.

Gravy’s Vocal and Mischievous Side

During “screaming time,” Gravy let her needs be known—whether it was to chase her beloved laser pointer or curl up in Pip’s lap. Her loud and expressive meows became their own form of communication.

Then there’s “goblin time”—where Gravy unleashed her inner chaos goblin. She’d zoom through the halls brandishing her toy like a trophy, leaving trails of unspooled toilet paper and occasional dips into the toilet bowl.

A Spooky Friend Appears

One day, Pip brought home a 3-foot plastic skeleton decoration for Halloween. Expecting it to scare off his skittish cat, he was stunned by Gravy’s reaction. Not only was she unafraid—she immediately fell in love.

Gravy approached the skeleton warily at first but quickly nudged her head into its hand, just like she would when requesting affection from Pip. It was love at first sniff.

Despite previously being afraid of objects as harmless as a crab rangoon, the toilet flushing, and even dairy-free cat milk, Gravy had no fear when it came to the bony figure.

“I thought you were gonna be afraid,” Pip said in a TikTok video. “You’re not afraid? Is this a friend?”

A Friendship Cemented

To commemorate their new bond, Pip placed the skeleton in Gravy’s favorite window spot. He even stabilized it on a stand to ensure it wouldn’t fall every time she rubbed against it for affection.

Now, the duo spends hours people-watching side-by-side at the window—one made of fur, the other of bone. More than a month later, their friendship is stronger than ever, and the skeleton now has a permanent place in Pip’s home.

“I’m losing my entire mind about this,” Pip said. “I will never in my entire life be over this.”
