Vacationers Discover Poolside Cat and Transform His Life Forever
After months of anticipation, Helena and her boyfriend, Adam, found themselves on an unforgettable journey to Turkey. Little did they know, an unexpected encounter on their first day would change everything.
An Unexpected Furry Encounter
Returning to their lounge chairs after a refreshing swim in the hotel pool, they found a fluffy orange cat comfortably sprawled across one of them, sound asleep. Among the many hotel cats, this one, which they affectionately named Puck, stood out.
Helena shared with The Dodo, “Most of the hotel cats kinda tolerated the hotel guests and only paid them mind if they saw food, but Puck approached me without any food or treats.”
Puck had wandered over, seeking only companionship. The moment Helena sat beside him, he snuggled up to her as if they had been long-time friends. “He made biscuits on me,” Helena reminisced, feeling special to be chosen by the charming feline.
The Bond That Grew Stronger
Helena quickly grew fond of Puck, playfully referring to him as “our cat” to Adam. Initially, the idea of bringing Puck home to the Czech Republic seemed impossible, but something inside his ear made the thought begin to take form.
Detecting ear mites, Helena felt compelled to help him. Simply treating Puck and leaving him behind wasn’t an option; adoption became a serious consideration.
An Unusual Proposal
Helena approached the hotel manager, expecting rejection. Instead, the manager surprised her by saying, “I could take all the cats I wanted,” although Puck alone was more than enough for her.
With help from Paws of Hope, arrangements were quickly underway to bring Puck home. He was transported from Antalya to Istanbul for medical requirements before his journey to Prague.
Homecoming and Happily Ever After
Meanwhile, Helena and Adam returned to the Czech Republic, where they waited with their cat, Guts, for Puck’s arrival. After a month of anticipation, a volunteer escorted Puck from Istanbul to Prague, where Helena and Adam eagerly awaited him.
Puck settled in immediately, forming a close bond with Guts. “They act like siblings,” Helena said, watching them play and wrestle.
Helena and Adam never imagined returning from Turkey with a living souvenir. Now, they can’t envision life without Puck as part of their family. “Every penny spent and every minute of wait was worth it,” Helena concluded.
