Kitten Seeks Help Outside Gym, Touches Hearts of Athletes
While navigating through the streets of Heraklion, Crete, Greece, after a bout of heavy mud rain, Elena Tserniatevits made it her mission to ensure the safety of the stray cats that inhabit the area. With the streets covered in a red sludge, Tserniatevits was eager to find refuge in her local gym.
Once inside, she began her regular workout routine. However, a moment of unexpected connection occurred when she locked eyes with a small gray-and-white kitten outside the gym window. This tiny creature, with mud-stained paws, seemed to be in distress and was in desperate need of help.
A Heartfelt Encounter
Tserniatevits couldn’t overlook the kitten’s plight. The kitten continued to follow her movements from outside the window, pacing between the entrance mat and the window ledge, meowing for attention.
On closer inspection, Tserniatevits noticed the kitten had sores and patches of missing fur. The sight of the sickly kitten pulled at her heartstrings, and she knew she couldn’t just walk away.
Returning with a Plan
Unable to take the kitten home immediately, Tserniatevits left the gym with a heavy heart. However, the image of the kitten stayed with her, compelling her to return the next morning equipped with a can of sardines and a resolute mission.
After searching the streets, Tserniatevits found the kitten again. Despite its dire condition, the kitten greeted her with surprising gentleness and trust.
A Race Against Time
Closer examination revealed the kitten was covered in fleas and sores and was perilously thin, yet with a distended belly. Unfortunately, the local veterinary clinic was closed for Sunday, but Tserniatevits ensured the kitten was fed again that evening.
The following day, Tserniatevits, accompanied by her mother, took the kitten to the clinic. During the veterinary examination, the kitten continued to display an endearing trust, purring and kneading the table with her paws.
A Safe Haven
Despite initial difficulties in finding a shelter to take in the kitten, Tserniatevits devised a plan to care for her temporarily. The kitten is now a guest in a section of her home, away from her dog, allowing her a safe space to heal.
Tserniatevits is determined to find the kitten a permanent home, providing her with love and care until then. The kitten is gradually recovering, thriving under Tserniatevits’ watchful eye, and eagerly awaiting a forever family.
