About a year ago, just days after Ferhat Hayat and his father opened a new glassware shop in Turkey, an unexpected visitor arrived. A little white-and-orange cat was spotted lingering in front of their store. Observing that it was alone, Ferhat and his father decided to welcome the curious feline inside for the day.
“We fed him well and made sure his belly was full. He hung out all day,” said Ferhat in a conversation with The Dodo. As night came, they prepared a cozy spot outside so the cat wouldn’t feel the chill, marking the beginning of a heartwarming bond.
A Purr-fect Friendship Begins
The very next morning, the same stray cat returned, making itself comfortable on a chair designated for employees. Not having the heart to send him away, they let him stay. “He’s been with us ever since,” Ferhat mentioned. They ensured the cat received all its vaccinations and check-ups, symbolizing their growing attachment.
He was given the name Şakir. Nowadays, Şakir spends his time exploring the neighborhood or soaking up the sun outside the shop. No matter where his adventures take him, he always returns home to Ferhat’s shop.
Daily Ritual of Love and Gratitude
Every day, as if expressing gratitude for the love and care he receives, Şakir leaps onto the counter to give Ferhat a warm embrace. “Whenever he looks at me, I open my arms, and he comes over to hug my neck,” Ferhat said, describing their adorable ritual.
This daily tradition has been captured by the store’s security camera, producing footage that showcases the unique bond between the duo. Ferhat admits that these tender moments make his long working hours more enjoyable and fulfilling.
