Of the many patrons frequenting Sunnyhouse, a charming Korean café owned by Sunny Song, none have been quite as endearing as Zoro, a street cat who loved lingering on their roof. For months, Song and her family routinely fed Zoro, believing he was merely a sweet stray in need of food. However, an unexpected discovery soon revealed a different tale.
“I wondered, maybe it’s not Zoro … maybe it’s Zara,” Sunny Song recounted to The Dodo. To their surprise, they discovered that Zoro was indeed Zara—a mother-to-be with a growing belly. Zara delivered four kittens on the café’s roof, but three of the newborns were very weak. Before the Song family could lend a hand, Zara left with her only healthy baby, leaving the frail ones behind.
Two kittens were abandoned in precarious situations: one fell behind a ditch near the bathroom, while another slipped into a hole on the roof, leading to a space behind the café’s kitchen wall. Their cries quickly alerted the Song family to the situation.
“There was a very distinctive meow,” Song explained. Persistence led them to discover the cries originated from behind the wall. After borrowing tools from a local hardware store, who generously lent them out after hearing their story, the family managed to reach the trapped kitten.
Once the wall was open, the smallest patron was revealed—a tiny black-and-white kitten with infected eyes, aptly named Wall-E.
Tragically, two of the kittens did not survive. But Wall-E, while suffering from an eye condition, was vibrant and immediately adored by both the Song family and their already resident rescued cats.
“Wall-E is so adorable, I took him home,” Song stated. “He’s incredibly friendly, loves being pet, and enjoys playing. He even sleeps right next to my face, which I adore.”
At Sunnyhouse, Wall-E has become a beloved fixture, charming patrons and embodying the spirit of warmth and hospitality for which the café is known.
“Everybody loves him,” Song declared. “He’s bringing guests into Sunnyhouse as our most adorable new employee.”
After his social outings, Wall-E enjoys curling on the shelves to nap, always ready to go home when the café closes for the day.
The Song family is grateful each day that Zara chose them, and Wall-E is getting healthier by the day with continual eye treatment.
“He’ll be with us forever,” Song affirmed. “How can you resist this sweet, wonderful little guy?”
