Rescuing a Furry Family Discovered in Backyard Woodpile
Paul Nadler, the vice president of Bowie Citizens for Local Animal Welfare (CLAW), frequently receives alerts about animal emergencies through his buzzing phone. When a local homeowner sent him a couple of photos showing a cluster of small fluff balls nestled in a woodpile, he knew immediate action was crucial. As luck would have it, Nadler was nearby and quickly headed over to investigate.
The homeowner, concerned for the well-being of the four-week-old kittens, had been tending to them for several days. She suspected a nearby older cat might be their mother but hadn’t spotted her lately. Without maternal care, these kittens’ chances of survival were dwindling. Among the litter, one tiny kitten ventured courageously from the woodpile toward the house, seemingly seeking aid. Seizing the opportunity, Nadler and the homeowner easily secured him.
Nadler devised a plan to capture the remaining three kittens, who were cleverly concealing themselves among the logs. Setting out some food managed to entice another kitten, allowing Nadler to deftly place it into a carrier.
For the final two elusive kittens, Nadler set a kitten-sized trap, leaving it overnight with hopeful anticipation. His patience was rewarded the next day when the homeowner sent an exciting update: both kittens were captured safely within the trap.
“We were both very happy!” Nadler shared with The Dodo.
The rescued kittens were promptly placed in a veterinary foster home, receiving diligent medical care and constant nurturing essential for recovery. Sadly, despite all efforts, one kitten didn’t survive. However, the remaining three kittens are thriving under expert care where they have the opportunity to mature into healthy cats.
As they continue to recover in a flourishing environment tailored for their needs, these resilient kittens will soon be ready for adoption, eagerly awaiting their forever families.
Rescued from a precarious situation in the woodpile, these kittens can now look forward to brighter futures filled with warmth and love.
