Heartwarming Rescue: Cat Saved from Scorching 113-Degree Boiler Room
When the residents of a London apartment building heard the heartrending cries echoing through the halls, they knew something was amiss. Acting on their instincts, they quickly reached out for assistance—leading to a remarkable rescue mission spearheaded by the Westminster City Council’s animal warden.
The cries that filled the building were emanating from the boiler room. Upon investigation, the animal warden discovered a family in distress; a mama cat and her kittens had taken refuge in the intense heat of the boilers, with temperatures soaring to a staggering 113 degrees Fahrenheit.
The mama cat, affectionately named Barbie, had nestled herself and her young ones deep behind the boilers. Realizing the critical heat danger they were in, the warden steeled herself and embarked on what proved to be a challenging rescue. Her determination and care led to the eventual safe evacuation of the entire feline family.
According to Amanda Rumball, London Welfare Officer at Blue Cross, Barbie remained a devoted mother, never once letting her initial fear override her care for her kittens. “Once she realized they were safe, she quickly relaxed,” Rumball explained.
Care and Recovery at Blue Cross
After their harrowing ordeal, Barbie and her kittens were transferred to the care of Blue Cross. Here, they began their journey to recovery. Unfortunately, one kitten could not be saved due to a pre-existing medical condition. Yet, the remaining kittens, Malibu and Guinness, are on the path to recovery.
Malibu, who has been diagnosed with a heart murmur, has found solace in a foster home where she will remain until she matures enough for a detailed medical scan to determine her treatment plan. Her sibling, Guinness, has already been placed with a loving family, and Barbie has been reserved for future adoption.
Barbie, who went above and beyond to secure her kittens’ safety in the perilous boiler room, is now looking forward to a life filled with comfort and peace—without the shadows of danger looming over.
