Kitten From News Found by Woman on Security Camera
This past spring, Sara Bonner, a dedicated cat foster mom, was preparing to welcome her 25th foster cat, a kitten named Sera, into her home. However, an unforeseen incident interrupted the journey when the transfer van carrying Sera and four other cats crashed. The accident resulted in the cats escaping from the van, leaving Bonner heartbroken and anxious about the fate of the kitten.
As days turned into weeks and there was still no sign of Sera, Bonner’s hope of fostering her began to wane. Despite feeling disheartened, she kept wishing for a miracle that would bring Sera back home.
An Unexpected Turn of Events
Then, astonishingly, a woman named Valerie spotted a wandering cat in her backyard, which she believed bore resemblance to Sera. Having seen news stories about the crash, Valerie decided to take the cat to a vet to have her microchip scanned. Joyously, it was confirmed that this was indeed Sera.
“When I heard that she had been spotted on a camera, it was really a miracle,” Bonner expressed with relief and happiness.
Sera’s Journey to Feeling at Home
Following her rescue, Sera finally settled in with Bonner. Understanding the trauma Sera had endured, Bonner took special care to make the 6-month-old kitten feel safe and at ease in her new environment.
“I put her in my bathroom, and I just let her know that, ‘You are finally safe,’” Bonner recalled. Initially, Sera was timid, spending much of her time hidden under the sink. However, Bonner had a furry assistant, her permanent cat Dunder, who proved to be invaluable in coaxing Sera out of her shell.
“He was literally waiting outside her door for days,” added Bonner. Thanks to Dunder’s persistent friendliness and Bonner’s affection, Sera gradually became more comfortable.
A Happy Ending
Sera’s transformation was remarkable. Once shy and reserved, she quickly turned into an affectionate and playful kitten, bringing joy to everyone around her.
“[R]eally, before I knew it, she was in my lap,” reflected Bonner. “She was in my arms. She’s snuggling with me. She’s purring. It was just mind-blowing.”
When Sera was ready, Bonner embarked on the mission to find a forever home for her. It wasn’t long before a couple fell in love with Sera and chose to adopt her. After a brief adjustment period, Sera is now thriving in her new home.
“Sera is such a sweet soul,” Bonner emphasized. “I felt really special to be a part of her story.”
