Cat’s Incredible 100-Mile Road Trip Clinging to Car Roof
In an unusual twist of events, Mara Denardo and her family, hailing from Pennsylvania, embarked on a road trip they will likely never forget. Just 100 miles into their journey towards New Hampshire, the Denardos made a stop for gas, only to discover their feline companion, Ray Ray, had been hitching a ride atop their vehicle.
Ray Ray’s feat is nothing short of extraordinary. For over two hours, he clung bravely to the roof, remaining undisturbed by the brisk speeds of up to 70 miles per hour and the challenging terrain of hills and turns.
An Unexpected Stowaway
The sight of Ray Ray pacing calmly on the roof was one Mara Denardo couldn’t quite fathom. “He was just walking around the roof,” Mara recalled in a video shared with The Dodo.
Despite conducting the usual checks, including a thorough inspection of the luggage rack by Denardo’s husband, Ray Ray had somehow escaped notice before departure.

The Marathon Adventure
Choosing not to return home, the Denardos figured Ray Ray’s determination to be part of the journey merited his inclusion. The following day, during a marathon event where Denardo’s husband participated, Ray Ray was there to cheer him on, nestled comfortably inside a cat backpack. Surprisingly, Ray Ray adapted quickly to the new experience.
“My husband ran right across the finish line with Ray Ray in his arms,” Denardo mentioned, highlighting the cat’s new travel dynamics.
A Cat in New York City
Stretched across their itinerary was a stop in New York City, where the Denardos decided to take Ray Ray along in his backpack. The trip included iconic landmarks such as the Empire State Building and Grand Central Station, where Ray Ray charmed passersby who stopped to pet and admire him.
After a full itinerary, the family took extra precautions to ensure Ray Ray was safely inside the vehicle before making the journey back home to Pennsylvania. Resting back at home, Ray Ray seemed content, nestled on his favorite pillow, perhaps dreaming of future escapades.
A Lesson Learned
Reflecting on their unplanned adventure, Mara Denardo reassures, “I would take him on a trip again. Obviously, he can travel safely now with his family and not on the roof of the car.”
