Cats Live Lavishly in Influencer Kat Wellington’s Backyard Mansion
Cheddar and Junior are more than just cats; they are the cherished companions of beauty and wellness influencer Kat Wellington, known as @washyourpillowcases on TikTok. Kat’s devotion to her furry friends is evident as she transformed much of her backyard into an expansive catio where her orange cats can thrive.
Dreaming Big for Her Furry Friends
The large backyard was a key factor in Kat Wellington’s decision to purchase her Santa Monica home in 2024. “At my old apartment, I had a really safe space to bring [Cheddar] out because it was a completely enclosed porch,” she shared on TikTok. “And I don’t have that here, and he just loves being outside — but there’s coyotes.”
Once settled, Wellington quickly commissioned a carpenter to construct the catio of her dreams. In just two days, the massive enclosure was complete, and Cheddar was enamored from the get-go.
The Perfect Outdoor Retreat
Wellington originally envisioned the catio as a standalone structure, but was persuaded to integrate it with the house. A tunnel from a window allows Cheddar and Junior to explore their outdoor haven freely and safely.
The catio’s robust wooden frame is wrapped in cat-safe mesh, offering security and openness. Its multi-level design hosts an array of perches and heights, enabling the cats to find the perfect view or bask in sunlight. With stairs, a bridge, and a scratching post, there’s no shortage of exploration and exercise opportunities.
Continual Enhancements for Comfort
To enhance comfort, Wellington added a stylish couch and replaced the mulch floor with a mix of turf and concrete tiles, perfect for afternoon naps. Above, a metal roof offers shade, though a skylight is on Kat’s wishlist to invite more natural light.
Birdfeeders and birdbaths enrich the view, promising constant visual stimulation for the curious cats.
Indoor Comforts
Inside the home, the cats lounge on the plush sectional sofa or command window-side benches. Wellington, mindful of her allergies, uses Clorox PURE Allergen Neutralizer Fabric & Carpet Spray to keep the living space clean and allergen-free.
For mealtime, each cat enjoys a personalized dining setup with app-controlled feeders and water fountains. “Moving water tends to entice my cats to drink more,” Wellington explained.
A Happy Home
Despite the cozy indoor setting, Cheddar and Junior prefer their outdoor escapades in the catio. “I think they’re overall more stimulated and happier,” Wellington remarked. “It’s truly a dream come true — I’m so glad I’m able to do this for them.”
