Cafe Owner Discovers Abandoned Baby in Towel at Doorstep
In early October, the excitement was building for Kelly Holland as she prepared for the grand opening of her new business venture, Cat’s Meow, a unique cat cafe and vintage store. Little did she know that an unexpected encounter that day would mark the unofficial beginning of her mission to rescue animals in need.
As Holland visited the store for some last-minute preparations, she stumbled upon a tiny kitten abandoned just outside the shop. The kitten, barely able to move and wrapped in a towel, had clearly been left there for several hours. Luckily, Holland’s timely arrival ensured that the kitten would not be left unnoticed and unattended.
Cat’s Meow shared the heartwarming yet poignant discovery on Instagram, stating, “We weren’t supposed to be there, but we were.”
A Rescue Mission Begins
As both the owner of Cat’s Meow and the founder of The Animal Rescue Alliance, Kelly Holland was well-equipped to handle the situation. She gently scooped up the weak kitten, who barely responded due to his condition, and brought him into her care. Inspired by the name of her shop, she decided to name the kitten Meowzer, marking the first rescue story of her new joint venture.
Cat’s Meow expressed their unexpected yet heartening starting point on social media, “Cat’s Meow hasn’t even opened its doors yet, and tonight this tiny kitten was left on our doorstep.”
A New Home and Future Plans
The very next day, Meowzer was taken to the veterinarian for a full examination and the necessary care. Despite being malnourished and underweight, his journey towards recovery has been positive, bolstered by the love and attention from his newfound companions.
Once Cat’s Meow officially opens on October 23, it is set to partner with The Animal Rescue Alliance, aiming to continue its mission to rescue and rehabilitate animals in need. Expressing commitment to this cause, Holland shared plans to install a security system: “When funds allow, we’ll also be installing a security system at Cat’s Meow so our storefront can be monitored for exactly this reason. We can’t stop people from abandoning animals, but we can do everything possible to make sure one is never left outside unnoticed.”
Looking Forward: A Bright Future for Meowzer
Meowzer continues to thrive under Kelly Holland’s care and will eventually be ready to find his forever home, thanks to the serendipitous beginnings at Cat’s Meow.
