Heroic Vacationer Saves Drowning Baby in Busy Port Rescue
Two years ago, Constance Gozlan embarked on a memorable vacation in the pristine island of Spetses, Greece. While the destination promised sunlit moments and peaceful relaxation, the trip took a heart-stopping turn when Gozlan noticed a small kitten struggling in perilous waters. The kitten, appearing lost and distressed, was spotted drowning in the chaotic ocean port.
Without a second thought, Gozlan sprang into action, driven by an instinctive bravery that set her apart from the crowd gathered at the port. While others hesitated, Gozlan dove into the deep waters, unwavering in her mission to rescue the tiny feline. Her family watched in amazement as she swam determinedly towards the kitten.
“They were shocked when they saw me jump in,” Gozlan later shared on Instagram, recounting the daring rescue.
Back on shore, Gozlan carefully cradled the seemingly lifeless kitten, wrapping her in a warm blanket. The initial lack of response from the kitten left Gozlan fearing the worst. But amidst the silence, a faint cry emerged—a small beacon of hope.
“It was like, ‘OK, there’s hope,’” Gozlan recalled, feeling a glimmer of optimism.
Swiftly, Gozlan took the kitten to the local animal hospital, Spetses Care For Animals. Here, the skilled veterinarians administered vital treatment, and soon enough, the kitten showed significant improvement. Named Spetzy, the resilient kitten began her journey to recovery under the loving care of Gozlan and her partner, Patrick Boyd.
Spetzy captured the hearts of Gozlan and Boyd over the following days, cementing her place as a permanent member of their family. The couple, enamored with her spirit and tenacity, decided to bring her back to the United States.
Gozlan and Boyd were initially concerned about how Spetzy would handle the long international flight. Much to their delight, the kitten traveled exceptionally well, sleeping peacefully throughout the journey.
Upon reaching her new home, Spetzy swiftly adapted to her surroundings. Although Gozlan and Boyd have several dogs, whom they initially kept separate from Spetzy, the pets soon became accustomed to one another. Spetzy now even enjoys joining the family for walks.
“We will let her explore when there’s no one around and she’s on a leash, because she gets so happy doing that,” Gozlan explained.
The impromptu rescue mission in Spetses not only saved Spetzy’s life but also enriched Gozlan and Boyd’s lives immeasurably. Unplanned but deeply meaningful, Spetzy’s addition to their family has become a cherished chapter in their lives.
“I think we mutually impacted each other, which I think is the nicest thing of it all,” Gozlan reflected, grateful for the chance encounter that brought them together.
