This young, brave police dog wasn’t just any K-9; he was the first-ever K-9 unit of the Park City Police Department, making his recovery a symbol of hope and unity for the community. His journey took a significant turn when he was released from the veterinary hospital after successfully undergoing surgery for two broken legs and a fractured jaw.

The incident that led to Bruno’s injuries was unexpected. During a police response to a suspicious object near a roadway in Park City, portions of Interstate 80 and U.S. Route 40 were closed. The response, managed primarily by the Utah Highway Patrol with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office and Park City Police, included Bruno and his handler.

Amidst the investigation, Bruno accidentally jumped from a freeway overpass, resulting in severe injuries. He was swiftly transported by Intermountain Life Flight to an emergency veterinary hospital in Salt Lake City.

The outcome of the investigation revealed that the suspicious object, fortunately, posed no threat. It was identified as road debris, possibly a battery from an electric bicycle or scooter.

Throughout his hospital stay, Bruno showed remarkable resilience and spirit, a testament to his determination and strength. The veterinary team was optimistic about his surgery, which was a crucial step in his longer path to recovery. Despite the challenges ahead, Park City Police remained hopeful, acknowledging the support they received from the wider law enforcement and rescue community.

Bruno’s surgery went well, permitting his return home to continue healing with his family.
