When professional photographer Baylee Dalton of BG Photography pulled up to a scenic farm in Sparta, Tennessee, she was ready to capture timeless engagement photos for a happy couple. What she didn’t plan for, however, was a four-legged scene-stealer named KitKat.
The Unexpected Greeter
As Dalton arrived at the farm, she was immediately greeted by a friendly feline who confidently jumped into her car. Affectionate and clearly at home on the property, KitKat shadowed Dalton as she scouted the location, making himself comfortable long before the couple had even arrived.
Dalton assumed KitKat was the farm’s unofficial mascot. “He hopped into my car to greet me and stayed nearby until the couple arrived,” she told The Dodo. She even joked to herself that he might be featured in a few shots.
KitKat the Co-Star
Any notion that KitKat might appear in “a few” images was quickly proven wrong. As soon as the shoot kicked off in the fields, KitKat joined in — and stayed in.
“The couple loves cats and hoped he would participate,” Dalton said. “We just had no idea he would steal the show.”
KitKat seemed overjoyed to be included, effortlessly photobombing nearly every frame with his charm and charisma. From cozying up to the couple to maintaining a curious presence in the background, he became an unplanned star of the session.
The Purr-fect Surprise
When Dalton began editing the photos, she realized just how active KitKat had been. “He was lurking in like 75% of the photos,” she recalled with a laugh. But instead of being an issue, it only added to the magic of the day. The couple was delighted, fully embracing KitKat as part of their engagement story.
Dalton shared some of the images on her social media to celebrate the unique shoot, tagging her photography business. The post unexpectedly went viral. People couldn’t get enough of KitKat and began treating the photos like a “Where’s Waldo?” game — scanning every image to find his hidden figure.
The Internet Falls in Love
KitKat’s furry antics made him an internet sensation. Fans were quick to ask if he had been adopted by the couple or the photographer herself. But as Dalton explained, KitKat was already part of the family — the barn cat belonged on the farm and was well taken care of.
“Barn cats are just as loved as indoor cats,” Dalton explained. “They just get more mouse entertainment opportunities.”
A Meowmorable Experience
Though the shoot didn’t go exactly as planned, Dalton, the couple, and KitKat alike wouldn’t have it any other way. The images exude warmth, love — and a touch of spontaneous feline joy.
The viral buzz surrounding the shoot has given KitKat his rightful title: the unintentional star of one of the internet’s most heartwarming engagement sessions.
KitKat’s playful presence added a surprisingly whimsical and unforgettable element to the engagement photos — proving once again that animals have a magical way of making special moments even more meaningful.
