Cat’s Hilarious Reaction to Groomed Dogs Has Everyone Laughing
From Fast Friends to Confused Feline: The Story of Kimchi, Koa, and Kumi
About a year ago, pet parent Franzlei Yuson brought home a new family member — a charming cat named Kimchi. Much to her delight, Kimchi instantly bonded with her two well-groomed Shih Tzus, Koa and Kumi. The adorable trio formed a harmonious household, spending quality time together, lounging on the couch, and sharing cuddles.
“Kimchi will cuddle up with them sometimes,” Yuson told The Dodo. “They’ll just sit there together on the couch.”
Something Changed—And Kimchi Was Not Having It
But one day, a surprising change in behavior left Franzlei puzzled. Kimchi, usually affectionate and calm around her furry siblings, began hissing at them seemingly out of nowhere. At first, Yuson was confused, unsure what had suddenly triggered such an intense response.
Then it dawned on her: Koa and Kumi had just come back from their grooming session, where they received a complete fur shave — something that only happens once or twice a year. Without their fluffy coats, Kimchi simply didn’t recognize them.
“That was the first time she saw them like that, looking completely different,” Yuson explained.
The Great Shih Tzu Identity Crisis
From Kimchi’s perspective, it was as though two strange dogs had suddenly appeared in her home. Her instinctual defenses kicked in: she hissed, arched her back into the classic angry-cat posture, and retreated upstairs.
“She did the angry cat position and hissed at them,” Yuson recalled. “And she’s never done that, ever, even when she first came.”
Meanwhile, her canine companions were entirely oblivious. Koa and Kumi rolled around playfully, wagging their tails and clearly wondering what all the fuss was about.
“The dogs didn’t even have any idea what was going on,” Yuson said.
Time, Space, and a Few Sniffs Change Everything
Disturbed by the appearance of what she thought were intruders, Kimchi took a four-hour timeout in the guest room. Yuson, feeling a mix of sympathy and amusement, decided to give her cat the space she needed to process the situation.
“She hid upstairs for four hours,” Yuson said. “We didn’t force her to come out or anything because I felt so bad. Even though it was funny, I felt kind of bad.”
Reunited — And It Feels So Familiar
Eventually, curiosity got the better of Kimchi. She slowly emerged from the room and cautiously approached the two “strangers.” After a few investigative sniffs, the truth dawned on her — they weren’t strangers at all.
“Within just those ten minutes, she was back to normal, once she realized it was them,” said Yuson. In no time, the trio was back to their usual cuddly routine, as if nothing had ever happened.
Life Goes On with a Lesson in Perspective
Kimchi’s misadventure reminds us that pets can be just as surprised and disoriented by sudden changes in appearance as humans — and their reactions can be just as relatable. While Koa and Kumi seemed blissfully unaffected, Kimchi’s cautious instincts told a different story.
For now, the household has returned to its peaceful, furry normal. But only time will tell how Kimchi will respond when Koa and Kumi get their next shave. Until then, their story continues to amuse animal lovers around the world.
