Dad’s Skylight Surprise: Rescuing a Family of Fluffy Friends
A somber hush fell over Charlene Jackson’s house on the morning of April 26. Her family quietly showered their beloved 12-year-old dog, Caddie, with love, as it was her final day with them. The atmosphere was heavy with grief, knowing that they would have to say goodbye the following morning.
As the family gathered around Caddie, Charlene’s husband interrupted the moment by ushering them into the office. Surprisingly, he had spotted a large, dark figure on the skylight — an unexpected yet adorable fluffy family had arrived.
“He was working in his home office when he heard noise above him,” Charlene shared with The Dodo. “Looking up, we couldn’t believe our eyes!” A mama cat had made a cozy home on the skylight with her kittens, a stark contrast to the recent cold and rainy days.
Charlene’s daughter, Georgie, swiftly decided that they needed to help the feline family, and her parents promptly agreed. They carried a kennel, food, and water onto the roof, hoping to let the cats rest for a while. However, after witnessing a kitten stumble into a drainage opening, they decided to bring the feral family to safer ground.
Fortunately, the little family was cooperative during the relocation. “Mama was very friendly and allowed us to pick her up,” said Charlene. “The kittens were scared, but we managed to get them all.”
The Jacksons provided a small enclosure on their patio, offering a safe space for the kittens and allowing Mama cat to come and go freely. Yet, while reviewing videos later, they realized a kitten was missing.
Despite not finding the lost kitten that night, and with the heartbreak of saying goodbye to Caddie the next morning, the family found solace in their remaining pets and the little feline family. It seemed as if these kittens were sent to help them heal.
Less than 24 hours later, the Jacksons joyously discovered the missing kitten, alive after surviving in a roof gutter. Yet, the next morning, Mama cat was in a panic, signaling something was amiss.
Initially thinking she was hungry, Charlene quickly realized Mama cat was desperate for help after scratching at the patio door relentlessly. To Charlene’s shock, three kittens were missing again! Guided by Mama cat, the Jacksons searched tirelessly.
Finally, Mama cat led them to a woodpile where all three missing kittens were trapped. The Jacksons dismantled the pile piece by piece until all kittens were safe. They secured the enclosure to prevent more escapes.
Over the following weeks, the kittens thrived under the care of their devoted Mama and were vaccinated at eight weeks. Initially planning to find all kittens homes, the Jacksons ultimately adopted Mama and the remaining kittens, Spicy, Stevie, and Nicksy, following the loss of both of their senior dogs.
Now, the cat family brings warmth and comfort to the Jacksons, filling their days with love and healing from their recent heartbreak.
