When Jaxon Feeley from Wigan, England, noticed something was wrong with his 2-year-old Weimaraner, Rambo, he had no idea the next few days would change his life. The devoted dog owner faced a terrifying ordeal when Rambo became severely ill, leading to a veterinary bill that grew to over $20,000. Refusing to give up on his loyal companion, Feeley turned his fears into action—and ultimately, hope.
According to Feeley, the nightmare began suddenly. “She began vomiting throughout the night over 30 times and by Saturday morning we were in the emergency vets,” he shared. Rambo was diagnosed with hypovolemic shock and gastroenteritis, a life-threatening combination that demanded immediate and intensive care.
After being admitted to a veterinary hospital, Rambo was placed in the intensive care unit. Although she showed signs of stabilization, recovery was uncertain and extremely costly.
“Rambo’s insurance has covered her up to £6,500. Her bill is now up to £11,500 after 1 week in care,” Feeley revealed. “It is unknown how long Rambo will need to stay at the vets and intensive care costs is approximately £1,000 per day. If the worst happens and Rambo requires major surgery, the cost of this as well as the aftercare is something I need to be able to give my little baby girl.”
Faced with escalating expenses and no clear end in sight, Feeley made a bold decision: he was ready to sell his home if it meant saving Rambo’s life. But then, a wave of kindness came his way. Feeley started a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the medical costs, sharing Rambo’s difficult journey with the world.
His heartfelt plea quickly struck a chord with animal lovers everywhere. In a matter of days, the fundraiser exceeded its goal, raising over £25,000—enough to cover Rambo’s treatment and provide additional care if needed in the future. Compassion from total strangers had turned what seemed like an impossible situation into a hopeful one.
Even more astonishing was Rambo’s own resilience. According to Feeley’s update on February 4, her condition dramatically improved in just a few days.
“Over the last 3 days, Rambo has pulled off a miracle,” Feeley wrote. “Hour by hour she has increased her oxygen efficiency, started eating and drinking, her lungs are slowly recovering, and we started to see that beautiful little personality resurface.”
During her time in intensive care, Rambo established a routine of seeing her owner every few hours. “She even knew what corner of the waiting room to find me in,” Feeley noted, emphasizing the deep bond between them.
- Rambo’s illness was sudden and severe, with over 30 vomiting episodes in one night.
- The vet diagnosed her with hypovolemic shock and gastroenteritis—conditions requiring intensive care.
- Costs topped £11,500 within a week, far beyond the reach of her £6,500 insurance coverage.
- Feeley was ready to sell his home to cover expenses, but strangers quickly stepped in with donations.
- Over £25,000 was raised, allowing not only for Rambo’s immediate care but for future treatment as well.
Thanks to the collective generosity and Rambo’s fighting spirit, she was able to return home. The once-dismal outlook had transformed into a story of hope and human compassion.
“There are no words to express how grateful I am for everyone’s love, support & donations over the last 2 weeks. It genuinely means more than you will ever know,” Feeley concluded.
Both Jaxon and Rambo are back where they belong—together, proving the incredible bond between humans and their pets, and how powerful community support can be in times of crisis.
