Family of Owls Surprises Home Depot Staff in Flower Pot

In an unexpected turn of events, Kamila Muxitake, a dedicated volunteer with St. Francis Society Animal Rescue, received an unusual call one day in early April. It was from a Home Depot employee seeking her help with an animal rescue situation. What she discovered was both surprising and heartwarming.

Mama cat found at Home Depot

A mama cat had chosen an unusual spot for her litter: a flower pot at a local Home Depot. The staff were feeding the cat family and marked the area to protect them from disturbance. However, they needed Muxitake’s expertise to ensure a permanent and safe solution for the mama cat and her kittens.

On arriving at Home Depot, Muxitake, who is skilled in humane trapping techniques, set about rescuing the furry family. Yet, the mission was not without its challenges. The trap she prepared malfunctioned, leaving her to find a creative approach to securing the mama cat.

“The mom was very hungry, so she walked right into the trap, but the door on the trap wasn’t working, so it wouldn’t close behind her,” a representative from St. Francis Society Animal Rescue explained. Muxitake quietly managed the situation by gently closing the trap behind the cat in an applauded move by onlookers.

With mama safely secured, Muxitake turned her attention to the kittens nestled snugly in the flower pot. The entire feline family was soon on their way to the rescue, all appearing to be in great health.

“The mom and babies were in very good shape,” said the rescue representative, noting the kittens were approximately three weeks old. They commended the mother cat’s caregiving skills since the kittens looked robust and active.

A twist in the tale came shortly after the rescue when St. Francis Society Animal Rescue took in a group of orphaned kittens. Recognizing the maternal instincts of the Home Depot mama, they introduced her to the newcomers, a role she embraced wholeheartedly.

“She took them under her wing immediately,” affirmed the rescue’s representative. “Nursing, cleaning, and looking after them as if they were her own.”

Although the mama cat and her kittens haven’t been named, there are suggestions from the Home Depot community to name them after flowers, a nod to the site of their initial rescue. When ready, each will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and available for adoption.
