The story of Elmer, a resilient kitten, is a heartwarming tale of rescue and recovery. Recently arrived at the Humane Society of North Texas (HSNT), Elmer was found in a dire condition, covered “from ear to tail” in thick industrial adhesive.
Discovered by a Good Samaritan, Elmer’s future looked bleak. Severely dehydrated and unable to eat, drink, or groom himself, the little kitten was in a critical state. Although the circumstances of how Elmer ended up in a bucket of adhesive remain unclear, the quick intervention by the passersby and the timely support he received at HSNT made all the difference.
A Delicate Rescue Operation
At HSNT, experts swiftly got to work to free Elmer from his sticky predicament. Using canola oil, the team gradually removed the glue from Elmer’s fur. For hours, they gently massaged the oil into his coat, exercising patience and care to ensure Elmer’s comfort and safety throughout the process. As they worked, they consoled the frightened kitten, providing reassurance with their soothing presence.
“It wasn’t fast or easy,” HSNT shared in a Facebook post, “But it was steady, patient care that met the moment with exactly what he needed most.”
From Glued to Groomed
After several hours of meticulous effort, Elmer’s rescuers managed to strip away the layers of adhesive, revealing the fluffy kitten beneath. With every bit of sticky residue gone, Elmer began his path to recovery, both physically and emotionally.
Currently, Elmer is recuperating in foster care, regaining strength and confidence. Once fully healed, he will start looking for his forever home, a loving family ready to match his affectionate nature.

“After getting a seven-hour massage, he expects a spa day every day,” a representative from the humane society humorously remarked to The Dodo, reflecting the growing bond between Elmer and his caregivers.
