Heartwarming Rescue: Woman Discovers Box of Ten Abandoned Cats

It was an ordinary evening when a volunteer at IndyHumane took one of the shelter dogs out for his final stroll of the day. The tranquility of the moment was interrupted when she noticed a car pulling up to a nearby dumpster. The driver set a cardboard box down beside it and drove away, sparking the volunteer’s curiosity and concern.

Upon close inspection, she found that the box had air holes punched throughout and, peering inside, she discovered the eyes of two cats looking back at her. Alarmed, she immediately sought the help of an IndyHumane staff member, and together they brought the box inside the warm facility, away from the cold, snow-covered ground.

However, the box contained more than just two cats; it contained ten.

A Startling Discovery

Jenna Kaufman, marketing and social media manager at IndyHumane, shared the surprise they felt upon discovering the box’s true contents. “That was definitely a first for us,” Kaufman stated. “I think the most before that was three cats.”

The ten cats were initially dazed, staying within the box even after it was opened. A quick examination revealed that the group comprised two mama cats with their kittens, one adolescent male, one adolescent female, and one adult male, suggesting they all belonged to the same household.

Beginning a New Chapter

As the warmth and care of the IndyHumane team took effect, the cats began to relax, their personalities starting to shine through with purrs and affection. “They were instantly purring and super affectionate,” Kaufman remarked.

In fond recognition of the iconic TV show they named most of the cats after characters from “Friends”. The mothers and their kittens were placed in foster care, while the other cats were made available for adoption, each leaving a delightful impression on prospective adopters.

  • The remaining cats are now available for adoption and meeting interested families.

Rescue Mission Success

The rescue mission emphasized the importance of timely intervention. “If the box had been dropped off just half an hour later,” Kaufman noted, “they might have been stuck outside all night in the cold.” Fortunately, all ten cats are now safe and comfortable, embarking on their journeys to loving forever homes.

Cats happily settled in their new environment

In a digital age where stories travel quickly, the rescue story could be shared by The Dodo across its platforms, showcasing a heartwarming tale of care and compassion.
