Earlier this month, a vulnerable, orphaned kitten was discovered alone without her mother in sight. Fortunately, a good Samaritan found the tiny feline and brought her to a local shelter, where staff immediately contacted Mini Cat Town rescue for support. Volunteer Toby stepped up and welcomed the kitten into his care, naming her Barberry. In those early delicate days, Barberry required round-the-clock bottle feeding and the warmth of gentle human contact to thrive.
Under Toby’s compassion and attentive care, Barberry slowly began to blossom. Nestled safely in her foster home, she found solace in the warmth and love around her. With no siblings to snuggle with, she quickly formed strong bonds with her human caretakers—especially one in particular.
Though Connor had always identified as a dog person, Barberry’s arrival began reshaping his heart. The first time they met, she crawled right into his arms and curled up like she belonged there. That heartfelt moment became a turning point as Barberry seemed to choose Connor as her person.
“She falls asleep nestled in the curve of his neck, close to his beard,” Toby explained, touched by their growing connection. It wasn’t long before Barberry became Connor’s shadow, affectionately clinging to him at every opportunity.
Wherever Connor went, Barberry followed. Whether it was his lap, shoulder, or even his neck, she claimed him as her favorite resting spot. Despite her tiny size, her determination to always be close never wavered. Her constant presence earned her the nickname of Connor’s little “bodyguard,” a role she carried out with purrs and playful cuddles.
Observing how much Barberry thrived with companionship, Toby and Connor recognized she could benefit from a sibling. They soon brought in another kitten—this time, a black-and-white male named Ralph, rescued from a shelter and looking for a home of his own.
Ralph immediately showed affection toward his new human companion, greeting Connor with head bumps and sweet kisses. It was instantly clear that he, too, felt safe and welcomed in their home. The bond formed quickly between Connor and the new kitten, and Barberry appeared overjoyed to have a new friend to play with.
