Playful Kitten

Fax, the tiny kitten with an exuberant spirit, has become a beloved resident at Kitkat Playroom due to his quirky habit of batting his paws at invisible objects. This seemingly playful behavior adds a unique charm to his already vibrant personality. Yet, beneath his outward silliness, lies a serious medical condition that requires attentive care.

Despite his joyful antics, Fax has been diagnosed with severe hydrocephalus. This condition, characterized by an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain, affects not only his behavior but also necessitates ongoing medical supervision. Recently, his condition has made a turn that demands immediate attention.

Understanding Fax’s Challenges

Beneath Fax’s adorably peculiar behaviors are neurological issues that affect his movement and coordination. His caregivers note that his funny quirks often provide comic relief during challenging days. However, when cameras recently captured seizure-like episodes, the need for immediate action became crucial.

An MRI has confirmed Fax’s severe hydrocephalus, affecting multiple ventricles in his brain. This has helped explain some of the symptoms, such as circling and ataxia, which manifest as coordination and balance difficulties. Hydrocephalus enlargement can place pressure on brain tissue and lead to a variety of symptoms depending on its severity.

Alongside hydrocephalus, Fax has been diagnosed with megacolon, an enlarged colon causing difficulty in processing stool. His treatment includes medication and potential dietary adjustments, but his caregivers have ensured that throughout it all, Fax remains his lively, quirky self.

Seizure Episodes and Urgency

The latest concern for Fax’s caregivers has been his episodes of focal seizures with impaired awareness. During these seizures, Fax may race uncontrollably, crash into objects, or scramble against walls, appearing unaware of his surroundings. To protect him from harm, his caregivers closely monitor Fax during these episodes.

Despite being placed on seizure medication, another episode occurred. This development has accelerated plans for shunt surgery, a procedure intended to alleviate the fluid buildup in his brain by redirecting it to another area of the body.

Preparing for Surgery

The urgency of Fax’s condition now calls for shunt surgery to manage his hydrocephalus. His growing weight has made him eligible for the surgical intervention that his medical team believes can significantly help his condition.

Fax’s Resilient Spirit

Fax’s story is one of courage and resilience. His antics continue to bring joy and laughter to those around him despite his medical challenges. His witty and playful nature makes him more than just a patient — he is a cherished member of the Kitkat Playroom family.
