Liberated Lab Bunnies Embrace Sunshine and Freedom Together
Donna and Figaro, two inseparable rabbits, spent a large part of their lives in an environment devoid of freedom. The confines of a laboratory were all they knew, leaving them unaware of the simple joys that life has to offer. Their existence was characterized by a consistent routine; devoid of personal belongings, they lacked even a sense of self. The sensation of grass underfoot or the gentle caress of a breeze was foreign to them.

When the moment of rescue finally arrived, it was transformative. The intervention of Save the Buns offered a second chance at life, placing these rabbits in the caring environment of Woodstock Farm Sanctuary. Here, they were finally seen as individuals rather than mere subjects in a testing lab.
A New Beginning
Riki Higgins of Woodstock Farm Sanctuary noted, “They were timid and had not been treated as if they were individuals up until that point.” The initial adjustment was challenging for Donna and Figaro. Every new experience was met with apprehension, but their bond provided a much-needed anchor as they acclimatized to an environment offering kindness and compassion.
The First Steps Towards Freedom
The game-changing moment arrived when Donna and Figaro were allowed to experience the outdoors—their first encounter with grass, open space, and fresh air. This new setting was as exhilarating as it was overwhelming for the pair.

As their caregiver opened the hutch door, Figaro hesitantly leaned forward, his senses filled with unfamiliar but intriguing sights and sounds. Each hop was a mix of caution and curiosity. However, he didn’t venture too far before looking back to encourage Donna to join him. His gentle reassurance worked, allowing her to take her first tentative steps into this new world.
Soon, there was a noticeable shift in their demeanor. The apparent hesitation was gradually replaced by confident exploration. The once restricted world now appeared expansive and full of possibilities. Their movements became lighter, their hops more joyful, as they embraced the emotional and physical liberty sunlit grass bestows.

A Journey of Transformation
“They were curious, eager to explore and encouraged each other,” Higgins shared. The transformation of these rabbits was profound; having arrived from a world of limitations, they now revel in a life that celebrates freedom, safety, and the nurturing power of companionship.
Today, Donna and Figaro enjoy each day as a newfound adventure. Donna’s outgoing personality balances Figaro’s more reserved nature. Together, they explore every corner of their environment, feeling the sun’s warmth and the texture of the grass under their paws. Each day closes with them resting side by side, a peaceful end to days filled with exploration and the joy of newfound freedom.

Although their journey from confinement to liberation was long and arduous, it led them to a life where they are seen, cherished, and whole-heartedly loved. In every hop they take, a silent testament to how far they have come resonates, reminding us of the miracles that compassion and care can achieve.
