Lost Cat Found Under Amazon Truck Reunites After Microchip Scan
A Feline Surprise at a Warehouse
Employees at an Amazon warehouse in Long Island, New York, were in for a surprise when they discovered a fluffy cat lurking beneath one of their delivery trucks. At first, it seemed like a curious stray had wandered onto the site—but over the course of several weeks, the cat lingered, becoming a familiar face to the staff. Workers provided it with food and water, unsure of where it came from but certain it needed help.
Enter the Rescuer
Eventually, the employees reached out to local animal rescuer John Debacker, known for helping strays across New York. Debacker used treats to safely lure the cautious cat out from under the vehicle. As per his usual protocol, he scanned the feline’s microchip. Expecting a local match, Debacker was stunned by the results—the chip traced back to Bermuda, over 700 miles away.
“I was shocked,” Debacker shared with The Dodo.
Who is the Mystery Cat?
In collaboration with the Bermuda SPCA, Debacker uncovered the cat’s name—Frankie. No one could quite explain how a cat from Bermuda ended up under a truck in New York. Possibilities included Frankie accidentally stowing away on a cargo shipment or drifting around after his owner relocated to the States and lost track of him.
A Global Journey
Frankie’s journey, however, was far more eventful than anyone imagined. Through further investigation and with help from rescuers across several countries, Debacker pieced together Frankie’s full life story, which reads more like a world traveler’s itinerary than a pet’s profile:
- Originally born in the United Kingdom
- Lived in Bermuda for a period of time
- Transferred to a family in the Turks and Caicos Islands
- Relocated to South Carolina, USA
- Surrendered to a local shelter in South Carolina
- Finally rescued by a New York shelter in 2017
With such an international resume, Frankie earned the affectionate nickname “Mr. Worldwide.”
Life in Retirement
At around 15 years old, Frankie is now a senior cat, yet his charm is undeniable. “He’s a very sweet cat,” Debacker explained. “He’s a purr machine.”
Though his globe-trotting days are likely behind him, Frankie’s story continues to capture hearts. He’s been placed in the care of Last Chance Animal Rescue, a Long Island-based organization committed to finding pets their forever homes. Now, this senior adventurer is finally getting the chance to live a peaceful, stable life with good care and plenty of love.
