Missing Cat Found Meowing Inside Wall Weeks After Disappearance
Late last month, Omaha resident Jan Robinson faced every pet owner’s nightmare:
her 3-year-old indoor cat, Ellie, mysteriously disappeared. The shocking event took place in the midst of a bathroom remodeling project at Robinson’s home, leading her to suspect that Ellie may have slipped out while contractors were at work.
Despite an emotional public plea and extensive efforts to locate her beloved feline, Ellie was nowhere to be found. Days turned into weeks with no sign of the missing cat.
A Mysterious Sound from Behind the Wall
Just as hope began to fade, something astonishing happened — Robinson heard the faint sound of meowing coming from inside the walls of her newly renovated bathroom. With disbelief and urgency, she realized that Ellie might have been trapped inside.
It turned out that Ellie had likely hidden inside the open wall space during the remodeling process, and was unknowingly sealed in as the wall was closed. For three harrowing weeks, Ellie survived inside that space — alone, hungry, and in total darkness.
A Heroic Rescue by Plumbing Expert
Robinson contacted the Nebraska Humane Society, who pointed her to an expert: Garrett Kohn from American Rooter Plumbing. Kohn came to her house equipped with a camera scope to search inside the wall.
“He saw her glowing eyes on the camera,” said Cheryl, a spokesperson from the plumbing company. “Then he carefully cut open the wall to rescue her.”
Ellie Survived Against All Odds
Upon being freed, Ellie was visibly shaken and fragile from her ordeal. Nevertheless, she had miraculously survived the three-week entrapment with no clear access to food or water.
“Jan took her to the vet immediately,” Cheryl shared. “Shockingly, Ellie was not emaciated. The vet said the only issue was a UTI and that she would fully recover.”
Happy Endings and Healing Hugs
Now back in her owner’s loving arms, Ellie is on the mend and showing renewed signs of affection and trust. She’s currently taking medication for her UTI and returning to her cuddly self.
The staff at American Rooter Plumbing said they were overjoyed to have played a part in such a heartwarming rescue.
