When adult children choose to live life with four-legged companions instead of little ones, a delightful and heartwarming shift occurs—cats become the grandkids. And what better occasion to showcase this love than Halloween, when costumes, treats, and fun are in full swing?
Meet Almond and Cashie, two adorable tabby cats who have proven that feline family celebrations can be just as festive as any traditional holiday gathering. Their loving owners might not have human children, but their cats are treated like royalty—and their grandparents have fully embraced their roles as doting “grandpawrents.”
Almond is a 12-year-old feline who had been the queen of the household for years. As an older cat, she was content but began to show signs of loneliness. That changed when her human parents adopted a new kitten named Cashew—affectionately called Cashie. Though introductions took time, the pair eventually formed a strong sibling bond, now sharing naps, sunshine spots, and toys alike.
Since Cashie joined the family at the end of July, this Halloween marked his first major holiday—and his first time meeting the grandparents. Needless to say, the occasion was filled with fanfare. Grandma and Grandpa arrived ready to celebrate, each with a compact goodie bag in hand, filled with feline-friendly surprises that would rival any trick-or-treat stash.
Inside the cat-friendly Halloween haul were:
- Seasonal toys with crinkle sounds and feathers
- Tins of special treats only given on holidays
- Colorful costumes designed just for cats
Almond, a seasoned holiday veteran, was eager to dive into her bag of goodies. While Grandma gently unpacked each item—laying out plush pumpkins and fuzzy spiders—Almond curiously sniffed and pawed through her gifts. When Grandma unveiled a tiny bumblebee costume, Almond’s reaction was one of trust and familiarity. She’s worn costumes before and wasn’t fazed at all.
Cashie, however, approached Grandpa’s display with more apprehension. Being younger and less experienced with dress-up, he eyed the bag suspiciously. Despite Grandpa’s kind tone and slow movements, Cashie remained cautious. It’s not so easy to win over a new cat when costumes are involved!
The most humorous moment came during the costume try-on session. While Almond stood proudly in her bumblebee outfit—posing for photos like a professional—Cashie looked utterly betrayed when Grandpa attempted to dress him in a cozy vampire cape. His wide eyes and frozen pose seemed to say, “Et tu, Grandpa?”
Whether they welcomed the costumes enthusiastically or not, one thing was clear—both cats were thoroughly loved and treasured. Being grandcats meant being the center of attention, and with two sets of doting grandparents, Almond and Cashie were on the receiving end of hugs, toys, and plenty of treats throughout the day.

As more people opt for pet parenting over raising children, the role of pet grandparents continues to evolve. These moments—filled with warmth, laughter, and a little bit of light-hearted mischief—underscore just how meaningful our relationships with animals can be. Cats like Almond and Cashie aren’t just pets; they’re cherished family members, and holidays like Halloween are all the more joyful because of them.
