Park Visitors Discover Abandoned Kittens in Uber Eats Bag

This past Sunday, a charity walk in Brooklyn, New York’s Prospect Park took an unexpected turn when a group of participants stumbled upon a green Uber Eats bag under a bench. Upon closer inspection, they found that the bag’s contents were not an accidental oversight from a food delivery, but rather a deliberate abandonment — two kittens quietly huddled inside.

The concerned parkgoers felt uneasy about the bag, prompting them to investigate. Upon opening it, their suspicions were confirmed by the sight of the kittens, who seemed to have been left there intentionally.

A Safe Discovery with a Heartwarming Outcome

Among the walkers was cat rescuer Dana Heis, who shared her thoughts with The Dodo: “I do believe that whoever dumped these cats wanted someone to find them. I think it was a situation where they had no choice.” Taking the lead, the parkgoers chose to carry the bag, kittens and all, throughout their 5-kilometer walk.

While continuing their route, another participant stumbled across an orange cat, which evidently had been part of the trio initially left in the bag. Once reunited, the orange cat promptly jumped back in with the others at the end of the walk, solidifying their bond.

From Danger to Safety

The walkers contacted Dana Heis, who graciously accepted the felines into her rescue. At first, the kittens were understandably shaken by their day’s tumult.

“They were pretty nervous,” Heis recalled. “It had been quite a day, obviously.” She quickly had them vaccinated and treated for fleas and worms, ensuring their immediate well-being. As time passed, the kittens grew more at ease with their safe surroundings.

Welcoming Grubhub, Seamless, and DoorDash

The three rescues, named Grubhub, Seamless, and DoorDash, began displaying their natural friendliness and sweetness. Within just a few hours of their arrival at Heis’ facility, all three had been placed in welcoming foster homes.

“They were just so thankful to be back indoors,” Heis noted. “They clearly were not outdoor cats.” While DoorDash has already found a long-term caretaker, Seamless and Grubhub continue their search for either a foster home or a permanent adoption.

Raising Awareness for Responsible Pet Care

This incident serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of responsible pet care. Dana Heis advises, “The better option for anyone that can’t keep their pets anymore is to take them to the city shelter or to a vet hospital, rather than just leaving them out there and hoping for the best.”

In ensuring a happy ending for these kittens, Heis hopes to inspire others to seek compassionate solutions and resources for pet abandonment issues, reiterating that every creature deserves to feel safe and loved.
