In the heart of Paxton, Massachusetts, a small rescue dog named Tiki has made a huge impact—not just in his home, but on screens across the world. Once a timid and fearful Chihuahua mix, Tiki’s remarkable transformation from shelter dog to social media sensation is now inspiring animal lovers everywhere and helping countless shelter pets get a second chance.
Tiki’s journey began in New York. Surrendered to the ASPCA, he was shy and withdrawn, showing signs of anxiety and past trauma. His foster mother, Isabel Klee, known on TikTok as @simonsits, gently documented his healing process. Her short, heartfelt videos showed the world what compassion and patience could do for a scared dog. Viewers quickly became emotionally invested in Tiki’s story, drawn to his cautious eyes and the gradual wag of his tail as he learned to trust again.
By the time Tiki was ready to be adopted, he had thousands of fans cheering for him online. That’s when Aubrie and Vince D’Angelo saw one of Isabel’s videos. They instantly felt a connection. “He had come up to us and let us pet him,” Vince recalled. “Those small things meant so much, especially since he hadn’t really done that with strangers.”
The couple knew Tiki was meant to be part of their family. Still, the early days were delicate. Tiki initially retreated to hiding spots, overwhelmed by his new surroundings. But slowly, something extraordinary happened.
“He was cautious, but he was curious,” Aubrie explained. “And that curiosity unlocked his progress.” That curiosity soon opened the door to an entirely new chapter not just in Tiki’s life, but in theirs.
The D’Angelos began sharing their own videos on TikTok and Instagram under the handle @tikiplustwo. Within only 24 hours, Tiki amassed 400,000 followers. Since then, his community has grown to over half a million. But for his new family, the popularity was never about fame—it was about using the platform for good.
“We didn’t adopt a dog thinking he’d have over half a million followers,” said Aubrie. “But now that we do, we’re doing everything we can to help other dogs like him.”
Tiki now shares his home with two other dogs, Meyer and Gaia. Once terrified of people and new environments, he’s now a happy, confident pup who loves exploring his backyard and snuggling with his siblings. His transformation is proof that with patience and love, even the most frightened soul can blossom.
The story of Tiki is more than just an internet phenomenon; it’s a message of healing, resilience, and hope. Through his journey, followers have learned about the importance of fostering, the impact of compassionate care, and how one adopted animal can lead to countless others finding forever homes.
