A few weeks ago, Reddit user Bambampou began noticing a stray cat family—a mother and her kittens—seeking refuge in the basement of a building near her apartment in Moscow, Russia. As an animal lover, she felt compelled to help, ensuring they never went hungry.
Caring for the Stray Family
Despite the absence of a structured system to aid homeless cats in her area, Bambampou and her neighbors took it upon themselves to provide food. “Unfortunately, we don’t have a good system for helping homeless cats here,” she shared on Reddit. “My neighbors and I feed them enough that they don’t even finish their food half of the time.”
Although Bambampou cannot adopt them herself, she hopes to arrange for a foster home where they can be safely cared for and eventually adopted.
An Unexpected Surprise: Their First Toy
Wanting to do more than just feed them, Bambampou decided to bring some joy into their lives. She gifted them one of her own cat’s old toys—a small, simple gesture that turned into something extraordinary.
The kittens were ecstatic. Having likely never owned a toy before, they eagerly engaged in play, their excitement evident in their quick pounces and boundless energy. Bambampou remains hopeful that with continued support from her and her neighbors, the kittens and their mother will soon find safe, loving homes. “They’re homeless, [but] I hope that won’t be for long,” she wrote.
