Unexpected Feline Distress Near Beaumont’s Parkdale Mall
Last month, while patrolling Parkdale Mall in Beaumont, Texas, a security guard paused his routine patrol to investigate a surprising sound. A faint meow echoed from a secluded area near a Macy’s outpost, piquing his curiosity and concern.
Despite his efforts, he couldn’t trace the sound to its source. He decided to call for expert help. Local authorities dispatched animal control officers Nevils and Carraway to the scene. The officers listened carefully and traced the distress signal to an open drainage tube.
The Rescue Operation
Sure enough, upon peering inside, they discovered a tiny calico kitten trapped far within. The kitten’s predicament was grim—it was deep inside a slick and muddy tube.
Officer Nevils acted swiftly, using an extendable mirror to better assess the situation before devising a plan. She gathered a towel from her car, tore it into long strips, and gently lowered them into the tube.

She dug her tiny claws into the towel and started climbing, slowly but surely.” Inch by inch, the tiny feline made her way up until she reached Officer Nevils, who gently lifted her to safety.

Once freed, the officers examined the kitten, who, although wet and cold, was deemed healthy. In a delightful twist, they wouldn’t need to find this furry friend a shelter because the security guard who first heard her cries had already opened his heart and home to her.

Today, this kitten enjoys the warmth and love of her new abode, worlds away from the chilly confines of that drainage tube. The rescuers at Beaumont Animal Care have stated, “We may never know how she ended up stuck in such a tight spot, but thanks to a sharp ear, a lot of patience, and some quick thinking, her story got the happy ending it deserved!”
