Stealthy Cat Uncovered: Years of Ambulance Sneaking Adventures
Recently, a house fire on Syd’s street led to the arrival of 14 emergency rescue vehicles, complete with blaring lights and sirens. While most of his neighbors were captivated by the blaze and the emergency workers’ efforts to rescue an individual inside, Syd observed another spectacle from his balcony. His neighbor’s mischievous cat, Walter, was attempting to sneak into an unattended ambulance.
Walter, a large, orange tabby, is renowned in the neighborhood for his curious antics. While other cats would typically flee from such a ruckus, Walter was unfazed, drawn to the commotion. As the bright lights flashed and sirens wailed, Walter’s curiosity only grew. Syd watched as the feline circled the ambulance, clearly thinking of one thing: sneaking inside.
“Walter ALWAYS jumps in people’s cars,” Syd shared with The Dodo, emphasizing the cat’s penchant for exploring vehicles.
Attempting to prevent another of Walter’s legendary escapades, Syd called down to the EMS workers, warning them of the feline by their feet, ready to jump into the ambulance. Though they couldn’t assist as they were busy with their duties, they asked Syd if he could intervene. But by the time Syd reached the street, Walter was nowhere to be seen. Syd’s heart sank as he realized Walter had infiltrated the ambulance.
“He did, in fact, jump in before I could get to him. I was freaking out…” Syd recounted. “I could see Walter in there just acting like he owned the place.”
Walter is not new to such mischief. Known as Walter Mitty in full, he has a track record of popping up where he’s least expected, making headlines for his adventurous spirit. From hopping into open trunks to wandering into buildings, Walter’s escapades are legendary, including an incident where he got lost in a moving truck.
“He gets into so much trouble. He broke into the elementary school, a hospital by their old apartment/house and even got lost in a moving truck once,” Syd added.
Fortunately, experience had taught Syd the art of luring Walter back. “Walter is very friendly and will never ignore a chance to get pets,” Syd explained. “I started ‘pspsps’-ing him, and he came right over, so I snatched that little fat beast up.”
Soon enough, Syd was carrying a subdued Walter back home, avoiding a repeat of the feline’s escapades. Syd’s roommate captured the entire rescue, and when Syd later shared this on social media, the video was met with a wave of comments from others who had encountered the infamous Walter.
- Sarah Hyland commented, “Walter used to live on our street. He would hang out on our porch all the time [and] if you left your car door open, he would hop on in [and] explore!”
Walter’s owner confirmed these encounters, reinforcing the cat’s well-earned reputation as the neighborhood daredevil. However, he is vigilantly tracked with a GPS to ensure he never strays too far.
Syd didn’t expect to participate in a feline rescue during the neighborhood fire, but his quick actions helped ensure that the emergency services could focus on their critical task. Moreover, the incident reasserted the extraordinary nature of his feline neighbor.
“That cat is fearless,” Syd affirmed, leaving no doubt about the distinctive character of Walter the cat.
