Stray Kitten Found Meowing Inside Amazon Package at Gate
At First Ladies Farm and Sanctuary in Riverview, Florida, rescue efforts for abandoned animals can happen when least expected. This heartwarming and unusual rescue unfolded when sanctuary director and vice president Claudia E. White made a startling discovery hidden among routine package deliveries.
An Unexpected Rescue at the Front Gate
It was an ordinary day when White approached the sanctuary’s entrance, spotting several deliveries near the front gate — common items from Amazon and Chewy that the nonprofit often receives as part of its work rescuing cats and domestic birds.
White, assuming the boxes contained pet supplies, casually loaded them into her vehicle. Unbeknownst to her, one of the boxes was far from ordinary. What looked like a typical parcel actually concealed a living soul counting on someone to notice him.
A Haunting Sound on the Road
Later that day, White set out to take several rescue cats to the vet. After dropping them off, she began her return trip—until she heard a faint, persistent meow coming from the back of her car.
Confused, she pulled over and checked the vehicle’s rear. As she examined the parcels, one box stood out — it had air holes poked through the top. Her heart sank as she opened the flaps and discovered a tiny black kitten curled inside, abandoned without so much as a blanket or a scrap of food.
“There [wasn’t] even a blanket or towel, let alone food or water, for him,” White later shared in a heartfelt Facebook post. “He’s a baby!”
Emergency Care Back at the Sanctuary
White quickly brought the kitten back to the sanctuary. Veterinary staff sprang into action, administering treatment for an upper respiratory infection and flea anemia, both of which can be fatal if left untreated—especially in a kitten so young.
His early days were a struggle, but the compassionate efforts of the care team brought him back from the brink. Every meal, every nap wrapped in a warm blanket, and every dose of medicine contributed to his miraculous recovery.
A Bright Future Ahead
Now, the little kitten is growing stronger each day. He’s playful, affectionate, and slowly preparing to transition into a loving forever home. Staff at First Ladies Farm and Sanctuary are deeply grateful that his hidden cries for help were heard—from inside a delivery box, no less.
“It was very dangerous,” White told The Dodo, “but he lived to tell the tale. This little stowaway will get a great home!”
