A heartwarming story unfolded in a quiet Surrey neighborhood, where a small mother cat carried a heavy responsibility. As she roamed the streets each day, her kittens awaited her return, safely tucked away in a secret location. Residents, noticing her presence, quickly decided to help the struggling feline family.
The community members ingeniously placed a tracking device around her collar, hoping it would lead them to the hidden kittens. Their compassion and advanced approach eventually caught the attention of Ken and Lisa Friesen from the Regional Animal Protection Society. These experienced rescuers were soon on the case, understanding the urgency of the situation since the kittens could be quite young.

Thanks to the AirTag’s signal, Ken and Lisa began tracking the mother cat’s movements through the night. Their dedication paid off when the tracker eventually revealed the secret: the kittens were nestled deep inside a shed located a few blocks away.
Upon discovery, Ken faced a challenging rescue operation. Armed with a net and flashlight, he worked tirelessly on the rooftop, battling the elements to bring each frightened kitten to safety. The animals were tucked away in the rafters, surrounded by torn insulation.

Weather conditions made the rescue even more difficult. “It was dark, cold, wet, and windy,” Ken recalled as he lay on the slick rooftop, determined not to leave any kittens behind. After hours of persistence, he successfully retrieved four kittens, but two remained elusive.
With renewed determination, Ken returned the next day, despite worsening weather. After countless attempts and hours spent coaxing the kittens from their hiding place, the entire family was finally reunited.

The mother cat, now named Beam, and her six kittens—aptly named Rafter, Slate, Concrete, Cement, Tar, and Shingle—are no longer stuck on a rooftop. Thanks to the patience and dedication of Ken and Lisa, they are warm, safe, and learning to trust humans.
Beam and her babies are now under the care of the Friesens, who are fostering them until they are ready for adoption. For Ken and Lisa, moments like this highlight why they remain devoted to rescuing animals, even when conditions are less than favorable.

The remarkable teamwork and modern technology not only saved lives but also created a brighter future for Beam and her kittens. It’s a testament to how caring communities and innovative solutions can come together to make a difference.
