Unadoptable Feisty Cat Becomes Beloved Office Manager at Animal Shelter

A cat with a fierce personality has gone from being overlooked to becoming an essential part of a Lancaster County rescue center. Rodeo, a 6-year-old feline with plenty of ‘catitude,’ was repeatedly passed over for adoption because of his feisty demeanor. However, instead of remaining just another unadopted pet, Rodeo has taken on a unique and unexpected role—he’s now the official “Office Manager” at the shelter.

### A Feisty Cat With A Troubled Past

Rodeo wasn’t always in the best shape. When he first arrived at the shelter, staff were told that he had been hit by a car. However, after a thorough examination, veterinarians suspect he had suffered physical abuse. He had five broken ribs, injuries that seemed more likely the result of being kicked than from a traffic incident.

For the past two to three years, Rodeo has lived at ORCA, recovering from his injuries and making his presence known. But despite being put up for adoption, no one ever applied for him.

“He always has an attitude,” a shelter worker explained. Despite his independent and sometimes grumpy nature, the staff at ORCA grew fond of Rodeo and decided they simply couldn’t part with him.

### From ‘Unadoptable’ to Office Manager

Instead of continuing to search for an adopter, the shelter decided to give Rodeo a permanent position within the facility. Now, as “Office Manager,” Rodeo is responsible for monitoring daily operations, keeping an eye on the staff, and making sure everything runs smoothly—on his terms, of course.

“He pretty much runs the place,” one shelter worker shared. “He inspects everyone who walks through the door, and his attitude has become something we’ve all grown to love.”

Rodeo’s role at the shelter highlights the importance of accepting animals as they are. While he may not have found a traditional home, he has found a place where he belongs and where his unique personality is celebrated.

His story serves as a reminder that every animal deserves love—even the ones that might not fit the mold of a ‘perfect pet.’ While not every cat is suited for a typical home environment, that doesn’t mean they can’t find a family in unexpected places.

By embracing Rodeo’s quirks instead of trying to change him, ORCA has given him a second chance—not just to live, but to thrive in the only home he’s ever truly known.
