Vet Discovers Surprising Cause of Cat’s Illness: 35 Hair Ties

For over a year, a charming cat named Louie often left his owner, Anne, puzzled as he sporadically vomited after meals. Despite these unsettling episodes, Louie continued to eat normally and showed no signs of distress, leading Anne to attribute his behavior to a sensitive stomach.

“I thought to myself that cats just do that,” Anne wrote. “It was never a daily thing.”

However, the situation took a drastic turn when Louie’s vomiting increased significantly.

“He had begun throwing up multiple times a day,” Anne noted, describing her concern when Louie became lethargic.

In a worried rush, Anne took Louie to the emergency vet. The unexpected result of the examination shocked her.

Louie’s X-ray unveiled a significant and foreign blockage in his stomach, necessitating immediate surgical intervention.

The operation revealed a jaw-dropping discovery: Louie had consumed a whopping total of 35 hair ties!

“They just kept coming out — one after another,” Anne recounted. The hair ties were neatly placed in a Ziploc bag for her to see, a peculiar testament to Louie’s secret snacking.

Anne expressed her mixture of surprise and indignation, “I was shocked when I found out he had gobbled down 35 hair ties, but at the same time … [I was] not surprised at all.”

Anne had been vigilant in keeping hair ties away, switching to clips after Louie became enamored with the elastic accessories as a kitten. Yet, somehow, Louie managed to find them.

“The problem is that hair ties are one of those things that just seem to multiply and reappear,” Anne explained.

Post-surgery, Louie is on a swift road to recovery, and Anne’s home has undergone a thorough sweep to rid it of any rogue hair ties.

“He truly has the best cat characteristics: curious, mischievous, sweet, and silly. By far the best cuddler on the East Coast,” Anne declared. “I hope this post will remind my fellow cat owners to keep hair ties away from their kitties! It’s an expensive lesson to learn.”
