Woman Discovers Breathing White Dog Mistaken for Teddy Bear

On a brisk November morning last fall, Eva Eftekhar’s usual routine of tossing heavy trash bags into the dumpster led to an unexpected discovery. Peering over the edge, she spotted what seemed like a fluffy white “teddy bear,” its head stuck inside a can, astonishingly starting to breathe.

Eftekhar immediately called her daughter, Yasmin Eftekhar, who speculated, “We both thought it might be a ferret because of how thin and long she was.”

Thinking quickly, the duo grabbed a ladder from their garden. Eva courageously climbed into the dumpster with great caution.

“My mom was very cautious about how she lifted her out because we didn’t know what injuries she might have had,” Yasmin explained. “So my mom lifted her … Then I took over and wrapped her in a towel against my chest.”

Right away, it became evident the weak animal was a cat in critical condition. “Like she had given up fighting to survive. There was a gap between the can and her neck, so she could breathe,” reflected Yasmin on the sluggish feline.

The cat breathing despite the obstacle

The Eftekhars swiftly rushed the cat to a vet while the can remained on her head to prevent further injury. The vet confirmed that, despite appearing filthy and malnourished, the cat bore no severe injuries.

The microchip inside the cat bore no registered owner. Initially brought home by the Eftekhars for a bath, the feline soon earned her place as an official family member, receiving the name “Angel.”

Angel the kitten feels at home

Angel’s journey into her new home was filled with small victories. Initially wary of human touch, Yasmin revealed, “She would scratch anyone who tried to touch her in any way that wasn’t initiated by her.”

Learning to trust humans again

Angel took time to understand playing with toys and was silent for days until she cautiously meowed for the first time. The turning point came when Yasmin learned to respect Angel’s autonomy, leading to trust and subsequent lovely moments of companionship.

Angel interacting cautiously

Over the weeks, Yasmin allowed Angel to dictate their interactions. Now, Yasmin notes that Angel has grown comfortable and even affectionate, no longer fearing touch. She finds comfort sleeping in Yasmin’s bed and is on amicable terms with the family’s other cat.

Angel happy in her new environment

Angel’s transformation from a despairing dumpster kitten to a cherished family member underscores the immense capacity of animals to love and trust again when shown compassion.
