Woman Rescues Abandoned Kittens After Spotting Mysterious Box at Vet
As the founder of Maxx and Me Pet Rescue, Lea Elise Haverstock is no stranger to helping animals in need. She regularly dedicates her time and efforts to saving and rehabilitating abandoned pets. However, what was supposed to be a routine vet visit turned into an unexpected rescue mission.
An Unexpected Discovery
Last month, while taking a rescue pup named Hennessy to a veterinary appointment, Haverstock noticed something unusual outside the clinic doors. A cardboard box lay abandoned on the stones, triggering her instincts as a rescuer.
Her heart pounded as she cautiously approached the box and lifted a flap. Inside, she found five tiny gray kittens, huddled together and emitting faint cries. It was clear—they had been left there with no one to care for them.
Racing Against Time
Despite her experience in animal rescue, Haverstock felt a surge of disbelief. “My heart was pounding, as I couldn’t believe it, but I deal with rescue daily,” she said.
The kittens’ fragile state worried her. “I didn’t know how long they had been left there,” she recalled. “I knew they needed immediate attention.” Thankfully, she had arrived early for Hennessy’s appointment and promptly called the vet clinic for help.
A Gentle Guardian
While the chaotic rescue unfolded, Hennessy stood by calmly, seemingly aware that the distressed kittens needed urgent help. “He was amazing,” Haverstock said fondly. “Hennessy was a gentle giant.”
The kittens, on the other hand, were far from serene. Their relentless cries echoed through the area, demanding attention and care.
Safe at Last
Haverstock’s quick actions ensured that the kittens received the urgent care they needed. Veterinary technicians at Pet First Veterinary Hospital immediately took them in, assessing their well-being and offering a warm, comfortable space.
The kittens were in the right place—the hospital already had an established rescue network, ensuring that the little ones would receive the care, nourishment, and love they desperately needed.
Now, thanks to Haverstock’s swift intervention, these five kittens have a chance at a healthier, happier future. From being abandoned in a box to finding safety, they are on their way to forever homes where they will be loved and cherished.
